About

Four tab tools, one quiet place.

Larksail is a browser extension for people who keep too many tabs open because closing them feels like losing something. We think it shouldn’t.

01 The story

It started with one too many extensions.

Saving tabs, suspending them, merging windows and clearing out the old ones took four different tools. None of them talked to each other.

Close the tabs. Keep the work. And never wonder where something went.

Larksail began as an attempt to replace four extensions with one: collections to save tabs into, auto-suspend to free memory, merge windows, and an auto-archive that clears out tabs you’ve stopped using.

Putting them together made one rule possible across all of them: nothing is ever really gone. Whatever Larksail closes, on its own or because you asked, lands in a searchable archive and can be undone.

Then came the part the other tools never had: a library to find saved pages again, and notes to write down what you learned beside them. That’s the name’s promise today — a tab manager and notes, in one calm place that keeps your data on your computer.

  • Collections à la Toby
  • Auto-suspend à la Auto Tab Discard
  • Merge windows
  • Auto-archive a tab reaper

02 Principles

Six rules behind every decision.

They’re written down where we build Larksail, and every feature is weighed against them.

The no lock-in promise

Your data walks out whenever you do.

Every import and every export is free, for good. Take your whole library as JSON, your collections as bookmarks any browser can read, or your notes as plain Markdown. We’d rather you stay because Larksail is good, not because leaving is hard.

Coming from another tool?
  • JSON Everything, in one backup
  • HTML Bookmarks any browser reads
  • MD Collections and notes as Markdown
  • AUTO Scheduled backups to Downloads
